The Shops at West End Parking Ramp

This project was a 255,000 square feet, 500 car parking garage connected to an outdoor retail mall. A total design-build project that had to be completed at the same time as the attached retail mall and theatre. Connecting the new parking garage to the existing with a bridge allowed for easy over-flow parking. (see photo above).

Public safety, ease of access and short walking distances to the retail, restaurants and theater were some of the requirements the owner had for the new West End Parking Structure. Therefore, the parking garage was designed with longspan precast double tees, which provided open spaces and unobstructed views throughout the parking garage. The floor to floor heights were increased more than a standard parking garage, creating an open and airy space. Vehicle entrances and exits were placed on every side of the parking garage, minimizing traffic backups before and after movie show times. Plenty of stair and elevator towers were incorporated into the design to get people from their cars to their destination in just a few steps.

The Shops at West End development include a place to grab a bite, see a show, hear live music, and catch up on shopping – all in one convenient location and all part and parcel to the Twin Cities experience. Duke Realty redeveloped approximately 40 acres at the southwest corner of I-394 & Highway 100 for this expansion, and the parking ramp Wells worked on is part of this $400 million mixed-use development.
